Reading Across America Week!

This week we will be celebrating our love of Reading! Your child brought home a red sheet with a list of activities that we are going to be doing in our classroom to celebrate.  As a school we are going to be celebrating with something related to reading every day this week.  Wednesday is volunteer day for parents to come in and read to the class.  If you would like to come at any time Wednesday please send me an email.  We would love to have you!

If I have a parent that would like to send in a snack this week please email me.  A snack related to a Dr. Seuss book would be great, but any snack would be great.

Friday is our Character Parade Day.  The kids brought home Book Character Parade Homework Friday.  They need to return this sheet along with their sign that they will be carrying in the parade.  The homework and sign are due Thursday, the parade is Friday.  If you would like to watch the parade it will be starting at 9:30.  Parents need to go straight to the lunchroom before that time.  I know we have several new families in our class so please email me if you have any questions.

Along with our busy week, we will be attending another field trip this Thursday to the Rosa Parks Museum.  Please have your child wear their 2nd Grade Blue grade level shirts on this day.  If your child doesn't have a grade level shirt they can wear their school uniform.

Thursday is also Silly Hat Day.  Your child may still wear their hat.  We will just keep the hats at the school while we're on the field trip.

Don't forget about our school fund raiser.  The order forms and money are due this Friday, March 1st.

I want to give a great big thank-you to all of our chaperons that were with us for Charlotte's Web.  I can't tell you just how helpful it was to have you there with us while we waited for a lengthy time for our bus after the play.  I appreciate you so much!

Also a great big thank-you to Mr. Carney for coming and sharing with us about George Washington.  We learned so much! Hopefully we will focus on more important things than the fact that he was missing all of his regular teeth.  To quote one of the kids, "No wonder he NEVER smiled, I wouldn't either!"

This week is a review week in Reading.  We don't have new spelling words for this week.  We will take our Benchmark test this Wednesday.

We will begin working on Telling Time in Math.  Please continue to practice with your child at home.

I know you've already heard all about it, but boy did our awesome PTA treat us to a fantastic party to celebrate winning the Just Give campaign. Of course the highlight of the day was to watch our very own, Mrs. Green roller skate around the school.  This was followed by a spontaneous dance party in the hallway.  What a day!

Our Fearless Leader right before she roller skated around the school!

Thanks to Mrs. Merrill you can also watch a glimpse of the fun.
