THE CATERPILLARS ARE HERE!

Get Ready Parents! You are going to learn more about the life cycle of a butterfly than you ever thought you needed to know! We are so excited! Each child has a caterpillar in a special protected cup on their desk.  The excitement in room 124 was just too much!

Your child is going to bring home a permission slip to Lanark Monday.  Please have the slip along with the money returned by Friday.  A few of you paid for the final activities in 2nd grade all at once.  All parents are welcome to attend.  The office does need a background check if you haven't completed one this year.  Just let me know if you need a form.

Remember that we will have our last graded, timed math drill this week.  Once we finish that, we will focus on our multiplication facts.  Please start working on these at home with your child.  It will give your child a head start for 3rd grade.

I was amazed at the creativity your child showed with the Recycling Projects! We had the best time presenting the projects and hearing about the clever thinking that was involved in the process.  I am surrounded by greatness in Room 124!

Your child brought home a yellow paper explaining our Community Spirit project for 2nd and 3rd grade.  We will be collecting items for the Human Society all this week.  The items needed are specified on the sheet that came home Friday.

Story this week: Red, White, and Blue
Genre: Narrative Nonfiction
Voc. Strategy: Word Structure
Comp. Skill: Fact and Opinion
Comp. Strategy: Monitor and Fix Up

In Math we are working with Geometric Shapes.

Please email me with any questions and have a SUPER week!

Earth Day Project due this Tuesday, April 22nd

The Earth Day Projects are due this Tuesday.  Your child will receive two Social Studies grades for this project.

Field Day is Thursday, April 24th.  Your child may wear their grade level shirt or spirit wear that day.  You may want to send a hat for your child.  You may also want to put sunscreen on your child that morning.  We get a lot of sun while we are out there.  Please make sure your child has comfortable tennis shoes on that are good for running.  Britton's mom has volunteered to send us cold waters.  If I have anybody that would like to send a cold treat to eat once we are back in the room just email me.

Don't forget to have your child practice Math Facts.  The last graded Math drill will be the last week of April.

Signed Papers and progress reports will come home this Thursday.  Please sign and return them both Friday.

ASF Field Trip April 17th

Students may wear their grade level t-shirt or Blount shirt for the field trip Thursday.  Look for an email from me about the time we will picnic.  You are all welcome to join us for the picnic.  If your child is bringing their lunch, please put it in a Ziploc bag so it won't get wet in the cooler.  Please only send throw away items for lunch.

There will be a PTA general membership meeting Monday, April 14th.

School will be in session on April 18th due to a weather day we had to take.

Field Day is April 24th.  Please email me if you are able to rotate with our class and help with the different stations.  If you are able to send a cooler with some waters for the class that day, just email me.  The kids get pretty hot while we're out there.

I wanted to give you a heads up that you are about to hear anything and everything you ever wanted to know about the life cycle of butterfly.  We are expecting our caterpillars to arrive this week.  This is such a fun and exciting Unit in Science.  Each child will have a caterpillar on their desk to take care of.  We take this job very seriously, and learn so much along the way.

This is a Benchmark week in Reading so we won't have a spelling test.  We will only have our Unit 5 Test in Reading.

Don't forget about the recycling project due April 22nd.  It will count as 2 Social Studies grades.

In Math we will continue with Chapter 10 on Data.  We will be ready to test on Friday.

Don't forget to keep an eye on INow.  This will keep you updated on your child's grades.

Please email me with any questions.  Have a SUPER week!

April 18th is a regular school day due to the weather make up day.

Please make sure all field trip forms and money are turned in Monday for the Art Museum.  I got a few forms without the money.

Also, put on your calendar May 6th for the Lanark Field Trip.  All are welcome to join us.
