Field Trip, Awesome Parents, & Just Give

Parent President Presentations

Reading Across America Week!

This week we will be celebrating our love of Reading! Your child brought home a red sheet with a list of activities that we are going to be doing in our classroom to celebrate.  As a school we are going to be celebrating with something related to reading every day this week.  Wednesday is volunteer day for parents to come in and read to the class.  If you would like to come at any time Wednesday please send me an email.  We would love to have you!

If I have a parent that would like to send in a snack this week please email me.  A snack related to a Dr. Seuss book would be great, but any snack would be great.

Friday is our Character Parade Day.  The kids brought home Book Character Parade Homework Friday.  They need to return this sheet along with their sign that they will be carrying in the parade.  The homework and sign are due Thursday, the parade is Friday.  If you would like to watch the parade it will be starting at 9:30.  Parents need to go straight to the lunchroom before that time.  I know we have several new families in our class so please email me if you have any questions.

Along with our busy week, we will be attending another field trip this Thursday to the Rosa Parks Museum.  Please have your child wear their 2nd Grade Blue grade level shirts on this day.  If your child doesn't have a grade level shirt they can wear their school uniform.

Thursday is also Silly Hat Day.  Your child may still wear their hat.  We will just keep the hats at the school while we're on the field trip.

Don't forget about our school fund raiser.  The order forms and money are due this Friday, March 1st.

I want to give a great big thank-you to all of our chaperons that were with us for Charlotte's Web.  I can't tell you just how helpful it was to have you there with us while we waited for a lengthy time for our bus after the play.  I appreciate you so much!

Also a great big thank-you to Mr. Carney for coming and sharing with us about George Washington.  We learned so much! Hopefully we will focus on more important things than the fact that he was missing all of his regular teeth.  To quote one of the kids, "No wonder he NEVER smiled, I wouldn't either!"

This week is a review week in Reading.  We don't have new spelling words for this week.  We will take our Benchmark test this Wednesday.

We will begin working on Telling Time in Math.  Please continue to practice with your child at home.

I know you've already heard all about it, but boy did our awesome PTA treat us to a fantastic party to celebrate winning the Just Give campaign. Of course the highlight of the day was to watch our very own, Mrs. Green roller skate around the school.  This was followed by a spontaneous dance party in the hallway.  What a day!

Our Fearless Leader right before she roller skated around the school!

Thanks to Mrs. Merrill you can also watch a glimpse of the fun.

BUSY WEEK!

We have such a busy and awesome week ahead of us! Everybody put your seatbelts on!

Mornings with Mom is this Tuesday or Wednesday.  If your last name begins with A-L you come Tuesday, and if your last name begins with M-Z you come Wednesday.  The time is 7:30-8:00.

Our President Reports are due this Thursday.  Thursday is also our Field Trip Day to see Charlotte's Web.  If you are a parent that is attending the field trip Thursday I am going to send you specific instructions about meeting us there.  We have several parents going so I need to make sure you know what the theater expects from us.  We will dress up again for the theater.  Dress will be just like it was when we went to the Shakespeare Festival.

Please make sure your child is at school this Friday.  We will be treated to a cookie cake party, along with popcorn.  The biggest news of all is that we will get to watch our FAVORITE PRINCIPAL roller skate around the school.  We are excited, and I don't want your child to miss it.  We won this because of the Just Give campaign.  Also, Kathleen gets a uniform free day on that day because she was the top seller for our classroom!!

A GREAT BIG thank you to Mrs. Scafe and Mrs. Carney for the awesome Valentine's Party they provided for us! The kids had a ball.  Reagan's dad was a super star with the Bingo game! I was told that was the best part of the party.  Room 124 has the best parents, no wonder you have such incredible kids!

Valentine Party this Thursday 1:30-2:15

Our Valentine Party will be this Thursday.  Your child may bring their Valentines for their classmates on this day to pass out.  A great big thank-you to Mrs. Carney, Mrs. Fallesen, and Mrs. Bailey for providing our bags and items to decorate them with.  The kids are going to have a blast with all of the fun things you provided.  We LOVE to craft in Room 124!

Also, please do not forget to send us all of your broken and unwanted crayons for a craft project I am going to do with the kids Wednesday.  The condition of the crayons does not matter at all.  And the more, the better.  We have so much fun with this project.

Remember that we have an early dismissal day this Friday.  The kids will dismiss at 1:10.  Please check the right side of this blog for other reminders.

If you haven't turned in your field trip money for the Rosa Parks Museum please send it in tomorrow.

I wanted to give a great big thank-you to Mrs. Doherty for providing us with another pencil sharpener.  I appreciate the support you all give to our class so much!! Our morning routine just got a little smoother thanks to you!

We will continue working with Money in Math this week.  Please practice with spare change at home.

Please don't forget to work on President Reports for Social Studies.

Science:  Your child has their Chapter 6 Voc. Words in their binders.  I checked every child's binder and they all had them.  We will test on these words this Wednesday.  The kids have loved learning about the weather.  They had a blast with Josh Johnson last Monday as well.  I would imagine you have been getting several questions about the weather.

Please email me with any questions or concerns.  Have a super week!

President Reports are due February 21st.

Please don't forget to check your child's binder nightly.  Your child has been bringing home several important things that you need to see at night.  One of them is a President Report.  Your child has been assigned a specific President to do a report on.  Please pay close attention to the 2 sheets that came home regarding this project.  The due date is the same day as our Charlotte's Web play.  Your child will bring the assignment in this day, but will present the next day due to the field trip.

Remember that the PTA is having the Annual Multicultural Festival and State of the World night this Monday, February 4th at 6:00.  Please refer back to the yellow flier that came home with the details.

Our extremely generous class has been doing an amazing job of bringing in items for the food drive.  Our box is overflowing and the food just keeps coming! Great news, the drive has been extended for two more days.  The pick up will be this Tuesday.  So if your child wants to bring in more items Monday and Tuesday they are welcome to do so.  Thank you so much for helping your child understand the importance of helping others in our community.  Also a great big thank you to Mrs. Lancaster for heading up this project for 2nd and 3rd grade.

HUGE NEWS FOR ROOM 124! We were the top money making class for the Just Give campaign! Our highest person was Kathleen! Way to go Kathleen! We are very excited about our party, and we are even more excited about getting to watch Mrs. Green roller skate! What a fun time that is going to be! Again Parents, your support is incredible and so appreciated!! And don't you worry, Mrs. Culp will film it just so you can enjoy the roller skating with us!

Your child brought home a list of names for our class to use when making Valentine's for their friends.  Your child doesn't have to participate, but if they do, they need to have a Valentine for each child in the class.

We need white gift bags and anything that can be used to decorate the bags for Valentine's Day.  We love stickers, etc.  The white gift bags can be found at the Dollar Tree.  We have 24 total students.

If you haven't sent in your money and permission slip for the Rosa Parks Museum field trip please send it tomorrow.  We are super busy during the month of February!

Also, be on the lookout for information to come home regarding the Valentine Party.

Thanks so much for all you do to support our classroom! Please email me with any questions or concerns.  Have a super week!
